Emergency Department

In the Event of an Emergency, Dial 911
Our Emergency Department (ED) is open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, caring for approximately 35 patients a day, an average of 1,000 patients a month, or nearly 11,800 patients each year. We have 10 treatment rooms equipped to accommodate all levels of care, from minor complaints to more serious injuries and illnesses. We are a Level 4 Trauma Center with a nationally recognized emergency physician group contracted to provide high-quality care to you and your loved ones.
What to Expect During Your Visit
We cannot predict the exact number of people needing care at any given time, but we are always prepared to assist you when you need us. Our team consists of board-certified emergency physicians and advanced certified nurses who are dedicated to providing top-notch, patient-centered medical care in our emergency department. Additionally, you may also encounter other specialists, such as lab technicians, respiratory therapists, radiology technicians, and other healthcare professionals during your visit.
Please refrain from eating or drinking while waiting to be seen by a medical provider, as this could interfere with your treatment or worsen your condition. Upon arrival at the emergency department (ED), you will first register at the ED registration desk, where you will provide your medical concern and confirm your name. Please remember to bring a valid form of identification and your insurance information with you.

Triage
During your wait, you may notice some people who arrive after you are seen before you. This is part of the emergency "triage process." A registered nurse will conduct a brief history and physical assessment, including taking your vital signs (blood pressure, pulse, respiratory rate, oxygen saturation, temperature) and evaluating your pain. It’s important to provide the nurse with information about any chronic health problems, medications, allergies, or other key facts related to your health, as this will help in prioritizing or triaging patients who require attention first.
The triage staff will regularly check on you while you are waiting for treatment. Please inform us if your condition worsens at any point during your wait. We will do our best to keep you comfortable and updated on any results or potential delays.
Evaluation & Treatment
You will be promptly taken to one of our private rooms in the ED, unless they are all occupied. You may undergo an electrocardiogram or X-rays, have an IV inserted to start necessary fluids or medications, and have blood or urine samples collected for testing. Blood tests can take up to 2 hours, but the results are crucial for the accurate diagnosis and treatment of your condition.
All of our rooms are private, and we will close the curtains or doors to give you the privacy you need while you wait. Our entire team is dedicated to keeping you informed and comfortable. If you are in pain, we will make every effort to manage it and regularly assess your comfort. Once your evaluation is finished, the ED provider will coordinate your care with your physician or other specialists.

Discharge/ Admission
When you are discharged, our staff will go over written instructions with you before you leave. Understanding and following these instructions is crucial for your recovery.
If you need to stay in the hospital, we will request a room for you based on your diagnosis and care needs. If no room is available at the time, we will continue to care for you in the ED and make you as comfortable as possible until your room is ready.
We Welcome Your Feedback
We value your experience with us. After being discharged from the emergency department, you may receive a short survey asking about the quality of care you received during your visit. Please take a few minutes to complete this survey. Your feedback is important and helps us improve our patient care at the hospital.
Visitor Policy
At Medina Healthcare System, we view patients and their families as partners in care. While visiting the emergency department, there may be times when staff need to limit the number of people in treatment or waiting areas to ensure patient privacy, safety, and comfort.
